Wine News for the week ending May 25th!
Memorial Day Cook Out Specials
First to impress your Charles Shaw swillin' neighbors and in laws you don't care to spend
a bunch of money on:
A
seriously good Spanish red:
Don
Salvador Monastrell from Alicante, Spain-Every once in a while we find an incredible value from an unexpected source.
This time it's a moueverdre(aka monastrell) from Spain, Siema Imports. Siema is primarily an importer of Italian wines
but somehow they came up with this intense, dark, juicy but not sweet, earthy but not dirty, super priced Spanish red. Folks,
this will not be around forever but we will have it for awhile. This is a WOW! HOW MUCH IS THIS WINE!!! type of value!
$8.75
Next we all know that Chile represents value
in wines. Here are 3 that are way underpriced for the money:
Sierra Cruz Chardonnay-All stainless with lots of crisp green apple and ripe pear.
Sierra Cruz Sauvignon Blanc -Chilean SB when
it's good, it's really good! We found a good one here!
Mars & Venus Merlot- Like the killer cab this Merlot has tons of structure, good fruit
and finish
All 4 of
these jewels are $8.75
THE
DEAL-
Mix and match
any 12 for $89
Any
6 for $43
It's Back!
Hirschof Dornfelder from Germany!
Yes that killer red from Germany finally made it past the dock strikes in
Europe to get here in time for the summer. Like going face first in to a bowl of black sweet cherries this wine is loved by
many. Serve slightly chilled!
NEW WINE FROM GREG GRAZIANO!
Monte Volpe Primo Rosso 2005
For all the fans of Enotria Dolcetto(which I
call a "baby" Amarone and a Jim Bostaph and John Agola Premiere Selection!), Monte Volpe Sangiovese and the Graziano
Coro Mendocino this new wine is a blend of Zinfandel, Sangiovese, Carignane, Negroamaro and Nebbiolo. This drinks like all
of Greg's Cal-Ital specialties! Big and rich with that thread of Italian brightness that shines with food or without.
$12.75 Worth more! A value!
THIS INCREDIBLE 2005 RED BORDEAUX is a
VALUE!
The 2005 Bordeaux's
are thought to be one of the best vintages in a long time!
Paveil de Luze Margaux-
Margaux is home to some of the most perfumed, elegant and feminine reds of Bordeaux. Primarily
Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot this wine is so smoooooth and structured with dry tannins and that classic Bordeaux fruit style.
$32 Buy 3 for $85
iT'S HERE!
AND BETTER THAN EVER!
JUSTIN iSOSOCLES! $60-only 12 bottles left.
I think this is the best Isosocles I've had in awhile. It'll
lay down great but tastes great right out of the bottle now!
The 2005 ISOSCELES is dark purple with a slight crimson overtone around the rim. Aromas
of boysenberry, leather, mocha, mint and cassis combine with light layers of caramel and vanilla resulting from the extended
oak ageing. A soft, fruit forward, elegant entry segues into a mid palate with length and complexity. Seamless, integrated
tannins marry with ripe fruit, and flavors of coffee, butterscotch and hint of pencil lead on the finish of this wine. 78%
cab-15% Cab Franc-7% Merlot This baby is not rated yet but I expect big numbers which will, of course, make it disappear!
